Abstract | In Marx’s theory, intra-sector competition is based on so-called ‘specific capitalist mode of production’, which, according to Marx’s assumption, is homogeneous for different firms in a sector. In this article, we try to incorporate perspective of Evolutionary Economics into Marx’s theory, by proposing that it is likely for different firms in a sector to produce products belonging to the same sector, while using different technologies or different modes of production. As a result, a kind of dynamic hierarchical structure of intra-sector competition is likely to come into existence, which is characterized with the metabolic competition, i.e. competition for market share based upon different quality-price ratios, and therefore differing from Marx’s original model. |
