AbstractGovernment, large state-owned enterprises and other institutions within the public system unit are popular for Chinese young job seekers. Based on its fierce competition and high threshold, the individual's family background, especially parents’ professional backgrounds of public system may have an important impact for job search and job promotion. In this paper, we used CHNS survey data and found that :there is obvious phenomenon of intergenerational transmission in Chinese public system employment, Children of employees within the public system are more likely to get jobs within the system; And this intergenerational transfer shows department independence, that government, institutions and state-owned enterprises have no cross-generational transfer; In the posts there are significant intergenerational transmission too, children of senior professionals in leadership than other children get easier promotion opportunities.
